Cargo throughput of Jiangyin Port rises 41.1% in H1

Jiangyin Port in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province saw its cargo throughput increase 41.1 percent year-on-year to over 154.97 million tons in the first half of 2021, local media outlets reported on Aug 16.

Jiangyin Port was among the top 20 ports nationally in terms of cargo throughput. Its growth rate topped all the ports along the Yangtze River, according to officials.

In addition, Jiangyin Port has surpassed Nantong Port and Zhenjiang Port to rank third in Jiangsu province in terms of cargo throughput, behind Suzhou Port and Taizhou Port.

With the opening of the Jiangyin-Ningbo container shipping route, Jiangyin Port's reach has become stronger, attracting cargo from the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River to transit in it, according to a director from the port development bureau of Jiangyin Lingang Development Zone.

In addition, the new policies released by the Jiangyin customs have helped to shorten the detention time at the cargo port for imported goods. As a result, Xiamen International Trade Group was able to save nearly 200,000 yuan ($30,813.78) when importing 86,000 tons of iron ore through Jiangyin Port.

The reduction in transportation costs has attracted more large sea vessels to pass through Jiangyin Port. Statistics from the Jiangyin maritime department showed that they have guaranteed the safe entry and exit of more than 250 capesize vessels to pass through Jiangyin Port in the first half of the year.
