Aug 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 42 new cases of confirmed infections (36 imported cases, 15 in Yunnan province, 9 in Guangdong province, 7 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 1 in Shandong province, 1 in Sichuan province and 1 in Shaanxi province; 6 indigenous cases, 3 in Jiangsu province and 3 in Hubei province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 52 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 2,735 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 3.
As of 24:00 on Aug 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 7,948 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 7,186 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 762 confirmed cases (including 10 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.
As of 24:00 on Aug 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 94,472 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 87,908 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,928 confirmed cases (including 67 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,151,965 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 44,471 were still under medical observation.
On Aug 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 17 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 16 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 15 imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Aug 16, 495 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 393 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on Aug 16, 27,961 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,036 in Hong Kong (212 had died and 11,750 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (57 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 15,862 in Taiwan (821 had died and 13,178 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
