Aug 16: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 51 new cases of confirmed infections (38 imported cases, 11 in Yunnan province, 5 in Zhejiang province, 5 in Shandong province, 5 in Guangdong province, 4 in Fujian province, 2 in Beijing municipality, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Liaoning province and 1 in Heilongjiang province; 13 indigenous cases, 6 in Jiangsu province, 6 in Henan province and 1 in Hunan province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 35 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 2,444 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 6.

As of 24:00 on Aug 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 7,912 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 7,159 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 753 confirmed cases (including 12 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on Aug 15, the National Health Commission had received reports of 94,430 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 87,856 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,938 confirmed cases (including 70 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,150,082 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 45,325 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 15, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 20 new asymptomatic cases (17 imported cases; 3 indigenous cases in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region). 20 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 16 imported cases) and 9 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 3 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Aug 15, 495 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 392 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 15, 27,948 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,033 in Hong Kong (212 had died and 11,748 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (57 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 15,852 in Taiwan (821 had died and 13,172 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
