Xiamen named a green freight distribution demonstration city

Xiamen has been named one of the 16 green freight distribution demonstration cities nationwide, according to the Ministry of Transport on Aug 10.

Xiamen is an international comprehensive transportation hub, an international shipping center, and a national port logistics hub. It is also home to Xiamen Special Economic Zone, Xiamen Port, the Xiamen area of the China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone, as well as the core part of the Maritime Silk Road.

Xiamen's logistics industry has strong service ability, strong regional effects, and a mature market, said a director of the municipal bureau of transportation.

With its strong business environment and attractive supportive policies, the city achieved 130.1 billion yuan ($20.08 billion) in its logistics industry in 2020. During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period, the total revenue of the city's logistics industry had an annual growth rate of 5.77 percent, showing a steady increase.

In the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, the Xiamen logistics industry will further develop in port logistics, high-end innovative logistics, intercity and urban-rural distribution logistics, manufacturing and trade logistics, as well as regional linkage logistics.

The green freight distribution demonstration city project was started in 2018 by the country, aiming to implement a new urbanization strategy, promote cost reduction and increased efficiency in the logistics industry, as well as push urban freight distribution toward green and efficient development.
