An international fish-release activity was held on July 9 via both online and offline channels in Yantai and Incheon, South Korea. Officials from both cities attended the event.
The event aimed to deepen cooperation between Yantai and South Korea in the marine fishery industry. It was also an important measure to promote the development of the marine fishery economy and to protect aquatic living resources.
Yantai and South Korea have established close cooperation ties, said Zheng Deyan, mayor of Yantai, adding that Yantai enjoys rich marine resources and is one of the earliest cities in China to start fish release activities.
Zheng said that he hoped the activity can further promote cooperation between the two sides in terms of marine economy.
Since 2018, China and South Korea have held the fish-release activity in the Yellow Sea three times. This year's event saw the release of one million fish seedlings.
According to statistics, Yantai has invested 250 million yuan ($38.62 million) in releasing more than 5 billion fish seedlings during the 13 Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period.
