Aug 9: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 125 new cases of confirmed infections (31 imported cases, 8 in Shanghai municipality, 8 in Guangdong province, 8 in Yunnan province, 3 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Sichuan province and 1 in Shaanxi province; 94 indigenous cases, 41 in Henan province, 38 in Jiangsu province, 12 in Hunan province and 3 in Hubei province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 29 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,538 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 5.

As of 24:00 on Aug 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 7,674 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 6,954 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 720 confirmed cases (including 13 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 8, the National Health Commission had received reports of 93,826 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 87,587 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,603 confirmed cases (including 49 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,127,361 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 48,314 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 39 new asymptomatic cases (31 imported cases; 8 indigenous cases, 4 in Henan and 4 in Hubei). 19 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 43 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 1 imported case). As of 24:00 on Aug 8, 532 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 401 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 8, 27,858 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,013 in Hong Kong (212 had died and 11,725 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (57 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 15,782 in Taiwan (809 had died and 13,066 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
