Aug 6: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 124 new cases of confirmed infections (44 imported cases, 13 in Guangdong province, 10 in Yunnan province, 8 in Shanghai municipality, 8 in Shandong province, 2 in Sichuan province, 2 in Shaanxi province and 1 in Tianjin municipality; 80 indigenous cases, 61 in Jiangsu province, 9 in Hunan province, 6 in Hubei province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Henan province, 1 in Hainan province and 1 in Yunnan), 3 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 39 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 946 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 8.

As of 24:00 on Aug 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 7,596 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 6,878 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 718 confirmed cases (including 13 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 5, the National Health Commission had received reports of 93,498 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 87,492 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,370 confirmed cases (including 34 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 1,115,176 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 40,990 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 58 new asymptomatic cases (37 imported cases; 21 indigenous cases, 12 in Hubei, 8 in Henan, and 1 in Hunan). 22 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 6 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 1 imported case). As of 24:00 on Aug 5, 557 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 391 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 5, 27,818 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,002 in Hong Kong (212 had died and 11,721 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (56 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 15,753 in Taiwan (791 had died and 13,001 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
