The regional gross domestic product (GDP) of the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone (core area) expanded by 19.3 percent year-on-year to 61.83 billion yuan ($9.56 billion) in the first half of this year, according to official statistics.
Statistics also show that the Hefei high-tech zone, which is located in Hefei, capital of East China's Anhui province, registered a robust growth of 73.6 percent in its import and export volume in the first half of this year.
The added value of service industry contributed 5.6 percentage points of the zone's GDP growth during this period.
The added value of industries above a designated size in the zone increased by 38.9 percent year-on-year, becoming a main driver behind the city's industrial growth, according to the zone's H1 economic report. Industries above a designated size are defined as industrial companies with annual revenue of at least 20 million yuan.
The output of strategic emerging industries accounted for 74.8 percent of the output of industries above a designated size in the zone.
