Aug 5: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 4, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 85 new cases of confirmed infections (23 imported cases, 9 in Shanghai municipality, 8 in Yunnan province, 3 in Fujian province, 2 in Guangdong province and 1 in Shandong province; 62 indigenous cases, 40 in Jiangsu province, 9 in Hunan province, 3 in Beijing municipality, 3 in Shandong, 3 in Henan province, 3 in Yunnan and 1 in Hubei province), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 40 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,172 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 5.

As of 24:00 on Aug 4, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 7,552 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 6,847 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 705 confirmed cases (including 11 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 4, the National Health Commission had received reports of 93,374 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 87,453 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,285 confirmed cases (including 26 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 1,111,137 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 37,990 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 4, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 54 new asymptomatic cases (22 imported cases; 32 indigenous cases, 22 in Henan, 7 in Hunan, 2 in Shandong and 1 in Chongqing municipality). 11 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Aug 4, 527 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 377 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 4, 27,801 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 11,996 in Hong Kong (212 had died and 11,721 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (54 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 15,742 in Taiwan (791 had died and 12,957 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
