The Shushan Police Station in Xiaoshan district, Hangzhou are sending police officers who can speak fluent English to a vaccination site at the Zhejiang Xiaoshan Geriatric Hospital, local media reported on July 21.

These officers will be sharing with expats waiting to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations about fraud and how to prevent it.

One of those whom the police spoke to was Brazilian pilot Lopes Ferreira Neto, who has been living in China with his wife for six years. The couple gave a thumbs-up for the initiative.

Zhan Yufei, a police officer at Shushan Police Station, said that sharing such knowledge with expats is part of their ongoing anti-fraud campaign.

The site at Zhejiang Xiaoshan Geriatric Hospital has provided vaccine shots to over 500 expats and the police station has made a bilingual anti-fraud video for them. In the past three months, the police station has stopped 37 potential fraud cases involving more than 690,000 yuan ($106,605).

Foreign nationals aged 18 or above who have been covered by Zhejiang's social medical insurance scheme may receive the vaccine free of charge by presenting their insurance documents at the vaccination site. Otherwise, the cost is 100 yuan per dose.
