China will step up the protection of the rights and interests of people with disabilities in the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), according to a document released by the State Council.
By 2025, the poverty-alleviation results of the disabled will be better enhanced and further developed, says the document, adding that the quality of their lives will also be improved.
The document also states that by 2035, the comprehensive development and common prosperity of the disabled population will see substantial progress.
To achieve these goals, the document proposes stepping up efforts in four areas: improving the social-security system for the disabled, assisting them in employment and entrepreneurship, improving the quality of social services they receive, and continuing to build a disabled-friendly environment to secure their equal rights.
The document urges the relevant government departments and regional authorities to draft detailed plans in accordance with the requirements, adding that the State Council Working Committee on Disability will monitor and evaluate the implementation of the plans on a timely basis.
