The Affiliated School of Ji'nan University for Hong Kong and Macao Students will enroll its first group of 300 students mainly from Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions in September in Guangzhou, Guangdong province.

The newly admitted students — more than 85 percent from Hong Kong and Macao — range from primary school first grade to junior and senior high school, said Jessica Feng, executive principal of the school.

It is the first school for students from Hong Kong and Macao under the direct guidance of a top university on the Chinese mainland.

The school has now registered more than 50 teachers, 70 percent of whom come from Hong Kong and overseas, Feng said. Most courses will be taught in English.

Located in Guangzhou's Tianhe district, the school covers an area of more than 40,000 square meters and will accommodate more than 1,200 students in preschool, primary school, junior high school and senior high school in the coming years.

In addition to students from Hong Kong and Macao, it will take enrollments from Taiwan, as well as from some foreign countries to become an international school with Chinese characteristics.

Wang Bing, vice-president of the university, said the school will become a bench mark of cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in basic education and will play an important role in accelerating the integrated development of and upgrading of educational standards in the Greater Bay Area.

In addition to more than 60 modern classrooms and 20 functional rooms, the school has four sports areas, including several indoor gyms, a football field, basketball courts, dancing halls and other facilities.
