Xinwu district posts 15.2% increase in GDP in H1

The gross domestic product of Wuxi's Xinwu district totaled 103.21 billion yuan ($15.87 billion) in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 15.2 percent, the local statistics bureau announced on July 27.

It is the first time that the important economic indicator has exceeded 100 billion yuan within six months, with the district's industrial production rebounding steadily.

According to statistics, in the first six months of this year, the district's industrial value-added output above designated size reached 80.04 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 22.6 percent. The industrial output above designated size rose 26.6 percent year-on-year, amounting to 271.84 billion yuan.

Among them, the total output value of industrial strategic emerging industries accounted for 60.3 percent of the total industrial output value, which was 19.8 percentage points higher than the city's average.

The district's six leading industries, including electronic information, electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing, general equipment manufacturing, automobile manufacturing, special equipment manufacturing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, continued to drive the district's economic growth.

From January to June this year, the output value of the high-tech industry in Xinwu district reached 189.9 billion yuan, accounting for nearly 70 percent of the district's total industrial output value. A total of 1,181 technology companies were established in Xinwu district in the past six months.

In the first half of the year, the district signed 95 new deals with each having investment exceeding 100 million yuan, 10 new deals with each having investment exceeding 1 billion yuan, as well as one new deal with over 10 billion yuan in investment.

The per capita disposable income of residents in Xinwu district reached 35,229.1 yuan in H1, a year-on-year increase of 13.7 percent.
