The gross domestic product of Wuxi's Xinwu district and the city of Yixing hit a new record in the first half of this year -- both exceeding 100 billion yuan, the local statistics bureaus announced on July 27.
The GDP of Wuxi's Xinwu district totaled 103.21 billion yuan ($15.87 billion) in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 15.2 percent.
Yixing reported a year-on-year increase of 13.3 percent in its GDP from January to June this year, amounting to 100.6 billion yuan.
According to statistics, in the first six months of this year, Xinwu district's industrial value-added output above designated size reached 80.04 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 22.6 percent. The industrial output above designated size rose 26.6 percent year-on-year, amounting to 271.84 billion yuan.
The total output value of industrial strategic emerging industries accounted for 60.3 percent of total industrial output, which was 19.8 percentage points higher than the city's average.
The district's six leading industries, including electronic information, electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing, general equipment manufacturing, automobile manufacturing, special equipment manufacturing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, continued to drive the district's economic growth.
In the first six months of this year, the total output value of Yixing's industrial strategic emerging industries reached 62.86 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 52 percent. The growth rate was 19.2 percentage points higher than that of the total industrial output above designated size.
From January to June, the output value of the high-tech industry in Xinwu district reached 189.9 billion yuan, accounting for nearly 70 percent of the district's total industrial output value. A total of 1,181 technology companies were established in Xinwu district in the past six months.
In the first half of the year, the district signed 95 new deals, each receiving more than 100 million yuan in investment, and 10 new deals received 1 billion yuan in investment, while one new deal received over 10 billion yuan in investment.
The per capita disposable income of residents in Xinwu district reached 35,229.1 yuan in H1, a year-on-year increase of 13.7 percent.
