With typhoon In-Fa approaching China's east coast, Shanghai Meteorological Center issued a blue gale alert, the lowest level in a four-color system, for the first time in the year on Friday morning.
The center warned people to take precautions as most areas in Shanghai will experience a level-6 wind with a speed of 13 meters per second, while the wind will be stronger at level 8 (20m per second) in the next 24 hours in riverfront and seaside areas.
At 5 am, the eye of the typhoon was 660 kilometer southeast of Wenling, Zhejiang province, with a 42-meter per second wind speed, said the center.
The typhoon is moving 5 to 10 kilometers per hour toward Zhejiang province and is getting stronger, it said.
The center predicted that the typhoon will make landfall at the coastline between north Zhejiang and north Fujian provinces on Sunday.
Affected by the typhoon, Shanghai will see rainfalls from Saturday to Monday, with an average accumulated rainfall of 120 to 180 millimeters and up to 200 to 350 millimeters in some areas.
