Hechi's environmental water quality ranks 5th in China in H1

The city of Hechi's environmental water quality ranked fifth in China and 3rd in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in the first half of 2021, according to a report released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) on July 19.

From January to June, in the cities of prefecture-level and above, the environmental water quality of surface water assessment sections of 30 cities including Liuzhou, Jiayuguan city in Gansu province, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous Prefecture in Guzhou province, Laibin and Hechi was relatively good.

Among them, the city of Liuzhou, Laibin and Hechi are all from Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

The water bodies where the assessment sections were administered in Hechi include the Diaojiang River, Hongshui River, Dongxiao River, Dahuan River, Longjiang River, Yantan Reservoir, and the Longtan Reservoir.

In recent years, Hechi's environmental quality of surface water has been at the country's forefront - ranking fifth in China in 2019 and 11th in 2020, and it rose to the fifth in 2021, according to the MEE.

Hechi made key efforts to improve water quality in recent years. The city has closed numerous heavy metal-polluting enterprises, promotes pollution control among enterprises, uses clean energy sources, and protects drinking water.

In the reservoir area of Longtan, Dahua, Yantan and Bailongtan, the local government has stepped up environmental improvement efforts by developing ecological aquaculture, healthcare and tourism.

The comparative analysis of environmental quality by the MEE is intended to strengthen local government efforts in water pollution prevention and control, and promote continuous improvement in national water quality.
