On June 24, the CNIPA Commissioner Shen Changyu met the President of Patent Office of the Republic of Poland (PPO) Edyta Demby-Siwek via video conference. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on the latest developments in intellectual property work of the two countries and bilateral cooperation, discussed the future work plan, and signed the CNIPA-PPO Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation.

Shen Changyu stated that the two offices have maintained long-term friendly cooperative relations and close high-level exchanges in the field of intellectual property. In addition, the CNIPA and the PPO have interacted frequently under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and China-Visegrad Group intellectual property cooperation. In recent years, China and Poland have achieved fruitful results in intellectual property policy exchanges and Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH). Under the guidance of the CNIPA-PPO MOU on Cooperation, it is expected that the two offices will deepen practical cooperation in intellectual property and foster economic innovation and development of the two countries.

Edyta Demby-Siwek highly appreciated China's work on intellectual property protection and believed that the BRI has played an important role in global economic development. The PPO attached great importance to the friendly cooperative relationship with the CNIPA. Taking the signing of the new memorandum of understanding on cooperation as an opportunity, it hoped to further deepen the bilateral cooperation, share best practices, and jointly promote vigorous economic development of the two countries in the post-pandemic era.

It is reported that the MOU signed this time extended the scope of bilateral cooperation to trademarks and geographical indications (GIs), consolidated the China-Poland liaison mechanism, and further deepened the exchanges and cooperation between the two offices in the field of examination services and application of information technologies, which will boost the cooperation between the two offices both in substance and depth.
