Memorial Hall Scenic Area of the First, Second, and Fourth National Congresses of the CPC
(中国共产党一大•二大•四大纪念馆景区 zhōng guó gòng chǎn dǎng yī dà èr dà sì dà jì niàn guǎn jǐng qū)

Collectively designated as a national top-level scenic spot in 2021, this complex is composed of three sites, namely the memorial halls of the first, the second and the fourth national congresses of the Communist Party of China. It provides visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the early history of the CPC and allows them to review some key moments in establishing and structuring the Party.

Memorial Hall of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China
Opened to the public in 1952, the memorial hall consists of the congress site and the side buildings to the west. It was where 13 delegates of the CPC attended the first congress held secretly from July 23 to 30, 1921. At the event’s conclusion – which was held on a sightseeing boat on South Lake in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, after attendees were made to leave the original site – the congress witnessed the passing of the CPC’s program and the setup of its leading group.

Covering an area of more than 1,300 square meters, it has been restored to its original state and showcases the typical Shanghai Shikumen dwelling styles of the 1920s in the then French Concession.

The hall not only takes charge of the preservation and management of the site but also collects, preserves and researches the cultural relics and related material of Chinese revolutionary history.

Memorial Hall of the Second National Congress of the Communist Party of China
Opened to the public in 2002, the memorial hall was where the Second Congress of the CPC was held in 1922. During the congress, the first edition of the constitution of the CPC was formulated and the Declaration of the CPC was published. The memorial preserves the original state of the site and consists of five exhibition zones. Meanwhile, it adopts innovative technology methods to enrich the visiting experience, including multimedia, man-machine interaction and AR, to build a memorial hall in Shikumen with rich regional features and cultural connotations.

The Fourth National Congress of the Communist Party of China
The fourth national congress of the CPC took place in a three-storey folk dwelling in today’s Hongkou district in 1925, which was unfortunately destroyed seven years later during the Battle of Shanghai in 1932. During the congress, the leadership of the proletariat in the democratic revolution and the alliance between workers and peasants were clarified. A modern memorial was established in 2011 with the support of the government and opened to the public in 2012.
