The China Cartoon and Animation Museum might become another calling card of Hangzhou, a city best known as the site of the World Heritage the West Lake, the capital city of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), and the birthplace of the electronic commerce giant Alibaba. Opening its doors to the public on June 26, 2021, the museum has a collection of over 20,000 items associated with cartoons and animations, including original drafts, play manuscripts, historical materials, journals, and models. It aims to present and interpret the 100-year history and broad prospects of the Chinese animation industry.
In addition to exhibition halls, theaters, cinemas, libraries, audio-visual rooms, and e-sports rooms have been built in the China Cartoon and Animation Museum to better serve the museum’s purposes in public education and cultural services.
To better engage the public, the museum will also hold various events, including stage performances, cosplay activities, e-sports competitions, and educational programs.
