Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, presents the July 1 Medal, the highest honor of the Party, to outstanding CPC members at a ceremony in Beijing on Tuesday.
Xi, who is also China's president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivers an important speech at the event, held at the Great Hall of the People two days ahead of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.
It's the first time that the CPC Central Committee has conferred the honor. The medal was created this year to commend distinguished Party members, workers on Party affairs and grassroots Party organizations nationwide.
