The embroidery of the Qiang ethnic community in Southwest China’s Sichuan province boasts a long history and includes a rich variety of stitch types, such as crossed, flat and chain, each of which presents unique charms. Flowers, grasses, fruits, vegetables, animals and humans are common patterns chosen to convey auspicious meanings with exquisite craft.
The most signature products of the Qiang embroidery, colorful aprons and shoes, are adorned with neat geometrical patterns and other colorful embellishments. Meanwhile, the dense stitches of the embroidery also protect the clothes from wearing out, reflecting the life wisdom of the Qiang people.
