The National Development and Reform Commission officially released a multi-level rail transit plan in the Yangtze River Delta recently.
According to the plan, the transportation network will be greatly promoted in the Yangtze River Delta by 2025, including arterial railways, intercity railways, urban and suburban railways, as well as urban rail transit. The Yangtze River Delta region is expected to become a demonstration and leading area for the development of deep integration of multi-level rail transit, which can effectively support the development of regional integration.
By then, the total mileage of rail transit in the Yangtze River Delta will exceed 22,000 kilometers, with 8,000 kilometers being newly added. The railway network will connect all cities with a permanent population of more than 200,000. Rail transit services will also cover 80 percent of cities and towns with a permanent population of more than 50,000.
The plan is made up of 63 construction projects, including 24 trunk railways, nine intercity railways, as well as 30 urban and suburban railways.
Among them, Wuxi will take part in the construction of the Yancheng-Huzhou Railway, which passes Taizhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, and Yixing, as well as the intercity railway from Shanghai to Changzhou, which passes Wuxi and Changzhou.
In addition, Wuxi Railway Station and Wuxi East Railway Station are included in the 43 key transportation hubs in the Yangtze River Delta region.
