Yantai paper-cutting, a traditional folk art, has a history of more than 600 years. The paper-cuttings are used to decorate the windows, beds, rice containers and flour vats, and exhibit the homeowners' longing for good luck.
Local paper-cutting artists have created a large number of paper-cutting works that showcase the regional character and cultural charms of Yantai.
Yantai paper-cutting has been selected as a national intangible cultural heritage item in 2008 and was included on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009.
