North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has reportedly made significant achievements in its industrial and information development, since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held in November 2012 – and it continues to do so.
Industry boosts growth
It is understood that the total industrial scale of Inner Mongolia continues to grow apace and that in 2020, the region’s industrial added value reached 550 billion yuan ($85.97 billion), with an average annual growth rate of about 4.5 percent. Industrial investment in fixed assets over a five-year period saw 900 billion yuan in place.
In 2020, the output value of the region's industrial parks topped 1.1 trillion yuan, while the number of industrial parks each with an annual output value of over 10 billion yuan reached 32, 3.6 times that of 2015.
The national market share of Inner Mongolia's bulk industrial products – including coke, PVC, methanol, olefins, electrolytic aluminum, ferroalloys and rare earth compounds – reached 7.8 percent, 20.3 percent, 21.9 percent, 33.4 percent, 14.3 percent, 31 percent and 70.6 percent, respectively. That made the region an even more important national energy and strategic products hub.
Industry restructuring
The added value of Inner Mongolia's manufacturing industry had an average growth rate of around 8 percent, with the growth rate of its strategic industries at around 14 percent during the same period.
The proportion of manufacturing investment to GDP in Inner Mongolia's industries increased from 42 percent in 2015 to 51 percent in 2020, while investment in emerging industries increased by about 18 percent annually, exceeding 300 billion yuan in 2020.
Currently, Inner Mongolia has 220 enterprise technological centers and six manufacturing innovation centers.
Green development advances
Inner Mongolia continues to push forward with the environmentally friendly upgrading of its industry. To date, it has 102 eco-friendly factories, 31 organic agricultural products, four green supply chains and 15 green industrial parks.
Inner Mongolia has also introduced 23 production standards in green manufacturing and in all, 62 manufacturers previously located in nature reserves have been relocated.
Informatization level improves
Currently, Inner Mongolia has achieved full coverage of the 4G network in all its villages and it has installed more than 10,000 5G base stations in total.
It has also established 11 industrial internet platforms, 15 intelligent manufacturing factories and 36 intelligent manufacturing workshops.
The installed capacity of big data servers in Inner Mongolia has now reached 1.2 million, ranking first in the country.
Small, medium-sized enterprises accelerate development
At present, small and medium-sized enterprises contribute an estimated 63 percent of Inner Mongolia's GDP, 52.6 percent of its fixed asset investment, 68 percent of taxes, 76 percent of total imports and exports, as well as 79 percent of added new jobs.
