Recently, the Civil Code of the People's Republic of China (Italian version), translated by Professor Huang Meiling from School of Law of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL), has been officially published in Italy, and it is the first Italian version of the Civil Code. On June 9th, Antonella Polimeni, President of the Sapienza University of Rome, and Professor Oliviero Diliberto, Dean of the Law School of Sapienza University of Rome, presented the first volume of the Civil Code of the People's Republic of China (Italian version) which had just been published to Mr. Sergio Matarella, President of the Republic of Italy. President Sergio Matarella, congratulated on the publication of the Civil Code of the People's Republic of China (Italian version).
Professor Huang Meiling, who works at School of Law of ZUEL, is responsible for the translation of the Italian version. And the editing work is organized by Professor Oliviero Diliberto, former Minister of Justice of Italy. Professor Dominic Dursi and Professor Antonio Marci from Sapienza University of Rome also participated in the editing. The assistant to the president and dean of School of Law from ZUEL, Professor Xu Diyu, wrote the preface.
A series of Italian media have reported on this, “This is the first Italian translation of China's Civil Code, organized by Professor Oliviero Diliberto, former Minister of Justice of Italy. And it is a model of cooperation between China and Italy in cultural exchanges and the latest cooperation between Sapienza University of Rome and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, what’s more, it is also an important intellectual support for the two countries in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative".
According to Professor Huang Meiling, the translation work takes "Showing a real, three-dimensional and comprehensive China" as the principle, and restores the whole content of the Civil Code most truly.
Professor Yang Canming, President of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, said that scholars from ZUEL had made important contributions to the compilation of Civil Code in the history of New China. This time, the first Italian translation of Civil Code will contribute to a better understanding of the world on the Civil Code and China.
