The Second Hometown

Born and brought up in Gwadar, a southwestern city in Balochistan Province, Pakistan, Faisal is proud of his hometown. It’s where the port constructed under CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor) is located. Faisal spoke quickly when talking about his hometown. “The weather there is usually hot. Winter only lasts for 1 month with the temperature around 10-12 °C. The rest is chill weather with the temperature around 12-20 °C. The remaining is summer with the temperature around 25-35 °C.” For Faisal, his hometown memory is filled with enjoyable summer images of times on golden clean beaches.

In 2015, he decided to further study in Nanjing, which then becomes his second hometown. Faisal shows his great love for Nanjing and its beautiful scenery and lovely weather. He has been living in Jiangning District for the previous six years. During the first and second year of his undergraduate study, he used to look around by metro. He has explored this spacious Jiangning District during these years, and recorded wonderful view of almost all the scenic spots in this area. Moreover, Faisal shows great gratitude to the friendly people here in Nanjing.

“I can feel the hospitality in this city and the students, especially in Nanjing, are great. I feel Nanjing is my second hometown,” Faisal said. Now he even knows Nanjing more than his hometown. By the way, his favorite foods here include Mala Xiang Guo (hot-spicy pot), barbecue and Lachao Jiding (diced chicken sauteed with green peppers).

A Discovery Land

Studying engineering has been Faisal’s dream since childhood. He used to do repairs back home, so he chose to take mechanical engineering as his major. He started his undergraduate study in NUAA in 2015, graduated in 2019 and then joined SEU in September, 2020. Now he is devoted to studying Chinese for one year.

In addition to making great efforts to learn Chinese, Faisal also plays an active role in many school activities, including the events held by the Nanjing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (NJPAFFC). He has visited Chang’an Mazda Automobile Co., Ltd., Jiangning Hospital, Huanglongxian Tea Culture Village, and Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone, among many other places. He has even been interviewed by Jiangning TV Station as a representative of SEU international students. His most impressive visit was to Chang’an Mazda manufacturing plant. Looking at all those cars on the assembly line, Faisal, as a mechanical engineer-to-be, felt excited to see his dream coming true.

For Faisal, no matter how many places he has visited in Jiangning District, mystery still awaits him. Days ago, he visited Jiangning Imperial Silk Manufacturing Museum, where he learned many new things and was deeply amazed by the ancient clothes and textures made of Chinese silk. Faisal also attended the Opening Ceremony of the Foreign Experts Book House in Jiangning District, a place with a wide variety of books and a warm and comfortable environment.

A Sports Field

Faisal is also fond of sports. During his spare time, he often goes to a gym to work out. He loves football so much that he used to play football in school every day. Now he occasionally joins teams to play in the fields outdoors with some Chinese friends. “They arranged games and we signed up to join. I love playing football,” Faisal said. His enthusiasm for sports also urged him to visit Belt and Road Youth Sports Exchange Week with other international students in SEU. They put on a stunning performance at the opening ceremony.
