Design Shanghai 2021 kicked off on Thursday at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center, with more than 400 design brands and independent designers from more than 30 countries and regions taking part.
The four-day exhibition, which has expanded its display area by 25 percent compared to last year, has eight themed sections including contemporary design, accessories and objects, classic and luxury design, a collectibles hall, kitchen and bathroom design, workplace design, and new materials and applications.
Premium carmaker Audi has brought the sustainable materials used in its e-tron GT Quattro to the exhibition, while contemporary designer Tom Dixon debuted his acclaimed Hydro Chair in China. Meanwhile, high-end furniture brand Stressless brought scenes of Norway to its exhibition booth which showcases environmental-friendly concepts.
“At a time when all industries around the world are paying attention to sustainable development and reuse of resources, the design industry is also eager to help these industries develop sustainably and healthily through the design strength,” said Tan Zhuo, curator of the exhibition.
“As such, the exhibition theme of ‘Regeneration Design’ is aimed at promoting the revolution of design in China and the world,” she added.
