Economy

Gansu witnessed stable economic development last year, with continuous economic improvements.

In 2018, the province’s GDP rose by 6.3 percent year-on-year to 824.61 billion yuan ($120.13 billion). Profits of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 31.2 percent from January to November, making it the fourth fastest in China. General public budget revenue increased by 8.3 percent, including 13.6 percent in tax revenue.

Its retail sales of consumer goods hit 342.84 billion yuan, up 7.4 percent from the previous year. Total volume of imports and exports reached 39.47 billion yuan, a drop of 21 percent.

The per capita disposable income in the province’s urban areas increased by 7.9 percent year-on-year to 29,957 yuan in 2018, while rural per capita disposable income rose to 8,804 yuan by nine percent. An additional 431,300 urban jobs were also created last year, 7.8 percent more than planned.

Administration divisions

The province covers an area of 454,400 square kilometers, extending 1,655 km from east to west. The landforms in Gansu are complicated and varied. It can be divided into seven landform areas, namely Longnan (Liupan mountain) hilly area, Longzhong loess plateau, Gannan plateau, Qilian mountainous area, Hexi corridor high land plain, Beishan mountainous area and Alashan plateau. Gansu province governs 12 cities -- Lanzhou, Jiayuguan, Jinchang, Baiyin, Tianshui, Wuwei, Zhangye, Jiuquan, Pingliang, Qingyang, Longnan and Dingxi.
