Economy
Zhanjiang is a trade center with a diversified industrial base, including aquaculture processing factories, sugar refineries, and household item manufacturers. The government is also seeking to build Zhanjiang into a heavyweight of iron and steel production and petroleum refining, with an increasing number of related projects attracted to the city. The city has kept on a steady economic progress since 2012. In 2018, the total GDP of Zhanjiang city reached 301.2 billion yuan ($43.74 billion), an increase of 6 percent.
Zhanjiang also has taken many measures to establish solid trade ties with ASEAN economies, which are the city's largest export market. The mutual benefit from such trades breeds even more extensive cooperation.
