About GMU
Founded in 1958, Guangzhou Medical University (GMU) is a high-level university in Guangdong Province offering a wide range of programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
With two campuses located in the Panyu and Yuexiu Districts, GMU covers 372,300 square meters, with 22 Schools, 18 affiliated hospitals and 28 research institutions.
Represented by Prof. Zhong Nanshan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, GMU has attracted talents across the country, particularly the recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. It has also recruited internationally renowned scholars such as Nobel Laureates, members of the USA National Academy of Sciences, members of the French Academy of Sciences and members of the Royal Irish Academy to join GMU as Distinguished Professors.
GMU has one National Medical Center, one National Clinical Research Center, one State Key Laboratory, 15 Provincial and Ministerial Key Laboratories as well as various centers, platforms, and bases at all levels.
It also has one National Key Discipline and seven Provincial and Ministerial Key Disciplines. In addition, a total of six disciplines at GMU have been listed among the top 1% in ESI globally. These disciplines include Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Molecular Biology & Genetics, Biology & Biochemistry, Immunology, and Neuroscience & Behavior. GMU’s overall ESI ranking is among the top 100 universities in China.
GMU has 19 National Key Clinical Specialties and 76 Provincial and Ministerial Key Clinical Specialties, among which the Department of Respiratory Medicine ranks first in China. Among GMU’s 21 undergraduate programs, eleven have been selected into the state-level first-class undergraduate program construction list, and three have been selected into the provincial first-class undergraduate program construction list.

I. Eligibility
1.Applicants should meet the following qualifications:
(1) Applicants should abide by the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China and follow the code of ethics in science as well as the principles for scientists in a new era.
(2) Applicants should hold a doctorate degree.
(3) The research field of applicants should be natural science, engineering technology, or a similar field.
(4) Applicants should not be working full-time in China or have returned/come to China to work after September 1st, 2019. Upon receipt of funding, applicants shall resign from their overseas posts or shall not be employed overseas. Applicants are expected to work full-time for at least three years after returning/coming to China.
2.The applicant must meet one of the following qualifications:
(1) Be born after September 1, 1980; and have held full-time teaching or scientific research positions in foreign universities, scientific research institutions or R&D institutions for at least 36 consecutive months.
(2) Hold positions equivalent to associate professor or above in prominent universities or scientific research institutions abroad, with high scientific abilities and strong scientific and technological innovation capabilities; or hold senior positions in internationally renowned enterprises.
II. Application

III. Funding and benefits
1. Funding by the state: 500 thousand RMB to 1 million RMB for living allowance; 1 million to 3 million RMB for scientific research funding.
2. Funding by Guangdong Provincial Government: the amount of supplementary grants will be provided depending on the actual conditions of selected scholars.
3. Funding by the Guangzhou Municipal Government: Selected scholars will enter the list of Guangzhou High-level Scholars and Excellent Experts based on merit, and will enjoy the appropriate level of talent-cultivation grants provided by the Guangzhou Municipal Government.
4. Funding by GMU: (1) Professor (research fellow) position; (2) An annual salary of 600 thousand RMB or more; (3) A settling-in allowance of 2 million RMB or more; (4) 5 million RMB or more scientific research funding; (5) Housing.
