China has strengthened its supervision and law enforcement efforts regarding illicit music content to boost its cultural industry, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said on May 28.
Chinese cultural authorities have banned over 4,900 songs containing illegal content, said the ministry.
Market regulators and law enforcement agencies have investigated over 33,000 businesses of various types, including entertainment venues and online music platforms, to prevent songs with illegal content from spreading, it added.
Platforms of online music streaming and short videos have been asked to perform regular self-checks.
The ministry also said it welcomes tip-offs concerning illicit music content from consumers and internet users.
