XJTLU establishes new academies to explore education models

Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University launched two new academies and opened its innovative lifelong-learning platform to the public to celebrate its 15th anniversary on May 22, local media outlets reported.

With digital and artificial intelligence breaking the boundaries of society, universities should take on new roles, said Xi Youmin, executive president of XJTLU, adding that universities should be connected with society in order to build an innovative ecosystem that supports interest-driven lifelong learning, as well as innovative industrial education.

The two new academies, known as the Academy of Future Education, as well as the Academy of Film and Creative Technology, will focus on building an ecosystem in the education, culture, and art fields.

The Academy of Future Education will play important roles in promoting new technology, influencing China's education reform and development of international education, supporting interest-driven lifelong learning, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship through the construction of an ecosystem, according to Xi.

XJTLU has launched several flagship projects since last year, including the XJTLU Wisdom Lake Academy of Pharmacy, which focuses on the pharmacy field, as well as the XJTLU-JITRI Academy of Industrial Technology, which focuses on the development of industrial technology. These institutions, along with the Academy of Future Education, as well as the Academy of Film and Creative Technology are all part of the university's exploration of innovative higher education models.
