May 23: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 22, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 19 new cases of confirmed infections (18 imported cases, 4 in Shanghai municipality, 4 in Sichuan province, 3 in Guangdong province, 2 in Fujian province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Zhejiang province and 1 in Yunnan province; 1 indigenous case in Anhui province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 5 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,413 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.
As of 24:00 on May 22, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 5,952 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 5,669 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 283 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.
As of 24:00 on May 22, the National Health Commission had received reports of 90,973 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 86,022 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 315 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 1,019,372 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 6,473 were still under medical observation.
On May 22, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 25 new asymptomatic cases (24 imported cases; 1 indigenous case in Guangdong). 13 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 6 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 22, 376 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 354 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on May 22, 15,742 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 11,830 in Hong Kong (210 had died and 11,550 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 50 in Macao (49 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 3,862 in Taiwan (17 had died and 1,133 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
