On May 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 10 new cases of confirmed infections (9 imported cases, 5 in Guangdong province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Liaoning province and 1 in Shanghai municipality; 1 indigenous case in Guangdong), 2 new cases of suspected infections (1 imported case in Shanghai; 1 indigenous case in Anhui province), and no deaths. 12 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 408 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.

In all, 5,664 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 270 confirmed cases (including 4 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on May 21, the National Health Commission had received reports of 90,954 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 86,017 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 301 confirmed cases (including 4 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 1,018,845 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 7,360 were still under medical observation.

As of 24:00 on May 21, 370 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 349 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on May 21, 15,018 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 11,829 in Hong Kong (210 had died and 11,547 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 50 in Macao (49 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 3,139 in Taiwan (15 had died and 1,133 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
