A month-long mulberry festival kicked off in Anding town in Beijing's Daxing district on May 20, with the aim of showing off the beautiful countryside scenery, local delicacies and distinctive culture.
The event is also seeking to use the area's ancient mulberry culture to promote local "homestay" tourism, and to market local food and beverages to increase the income of villagers.
It is a pleasant experience for tourists to appreciate the lush greenery and well-ordered gardens, take photos at internet-famous sites or buy processed mulberry products while strolling round the streets.
Visitors are being treated to an cultural exhibition displaying gauze lanterns, ancient architectural paintings, and gourd heat transfers. Mulberry leaf-themed delicacies including honey tofu will be offered in nearby restaurants.
Anding town's history dates back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279), and it has revolutionary links. During the festival, those interested in revolutionary culture also have a lot of explore.
