On May 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 24 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 11 in Fujian province, 9 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Henan province, 1 in Hunan province, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Sichuan province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 15 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 705 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.

In all, 5,654 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 271 confirmed cases (including 4 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.
As of 24:00 on May 20, the National Health Commission had received reports of 90,944 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 86,005 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 303 confirmed cases (including 5 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,018,367 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 7,291 were still under medical observation.
On May 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 25 new asymptomatic cases (23 imported cases; 2 indigenous cases, 1 in Liaoning province and 1 in Anhui province). 11 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 10 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 20, 364 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 344 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on May 20, 14,703 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 11,828 in Hong Kong (210 had died and 11,542 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 50 in Macao (49 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 2,825 in Taiwan (15 had died and 1,133 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
