The Work Bank has played an instrument role in the construction of the eldercare service system in Southwest China's Guizhou province, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency.
The World Bank approved a $350 million loan in May, 2019 to help Guizhou increase the coverage and quality of care services for the elderly and strengthen the efficiency of the eldercare system, local officials said at a meeting on May 16.
The so-called "Guizhou Aged Care System Development Program-for-Results (PforR)" also involved a loan of 100 million euros ($121.38 million) from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
The World Bank will support Guizhou's construction of an eldercare service system and promote coordination between home-based care, community-based care and nursing institution-based care for the elderly.
Eldercare workers and family caregivers will benefit through skills training, wage subsidies and financial support, as well as respite services.
The World Bank will also help Guizhou improve the specialization level and quality of eldercare services, ensure the affordable and sustainable development of eldercare services and promote the integration of medical care and healthcare. It will also help to improve related laws and regulations for eldercare services.
Statistics show that Guizhou has 5.93 million people above 60 years old, occupying 15.38 percent of the province's total population.
