First Shaanxi- Taiwan exchange base unveiled

The unveiling ceremony of the first Shaanxi-Taiwan Exchange Base was held on May 7 at the Museum of Xi'an Jiaotong University, of Xi’an, Shaanxi province in Northwest China.

Xi Guang, vice president of Xi'an Jiaotong University, said that his university has continuously promoted in-depth cooperation between schools on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, taking the exchange of visits and exchanges as an opportunity; it has also effectively promoted academic exchanges between the two sides and continuously condensed and enhanced their various consensuses.

“The university has signed 66 agreements with 26 famous universities in Taiwan, including Taiwan University, Tsinghua University and Yangming Jiaotong University. As a representative of Shaanxi universities, Xi'an Jiaotong University has received 854 people from 21 groups in Taiwan in the last four years,” Xi said.

He added that since 2007, the "hand in hand, heart in heart, Chinese compatriots" training camp has attracted participation by more than 1,000 teachers and students from 26 Taiwan universities, becoming one of a series of excellent activities for active exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan.

Founded in September 2004, Xi'an Jiaotong University Museum is located on the Xingqing campus of the school, and has a total area of 6,800 square meters, a display area of 4,500 square meters and a collection of more than 5,000 pieces. It is a state-owned industrial art museum approved by the Ministry of Education and the Shaanxi Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage. It is home to the Shaanxi Opera museum, a museum of historical art and cultural relics and a stone tablet calligraphy museum, as well as a Western China farmers painting and art museum. Its attractions include Xing Liangkun ceramics, wooden New Year pictures, shadow play art and a temporary exhibition hall.

The purpose of Xi'an Jiaotong University Museum is to protect and carry forward the excellent national history and culture of Western China. It is an important venue where the school can carry out public welfare and extended social and cultural services and education. Since its completion and opening up, it has received more than 500,000 visitors.

The first provincial exchange base between Shaanxi and Taiwan, the museum has become a new platform for exchange and cooperation between Shaanxi and Taiwan. It will play a positive exemplary and leading role in applying Shaanxi's resource advantages and promoting exchange and cooperation in the field of culture and education between Shaanxi and Taiwan.
