Bengbu city in northern Anhui province boasts an illustrious history. Shuangdun Culture, a Neolithic civilization dating back 7,300 years, was discovered in city’s northern region. It was in today’s Bengbu where Dayu managed to dredge the Huaihe River and tame the flood as well as convene all the lords from across China to proclaim his rule 4,000 years ago.
A small town in northern Bengbu was where the famous Gaixia Battle took place in 202 BC. The battle resulted in the death of the hero Xiang Yu.
