May 12: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 11, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 16 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 8 in Guangdong province, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Shandong province, 1 in Sichuan province and 1 in Shaanxi province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 16 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 470 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.
As of 24:00 on May 11, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 5,801 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 5,522 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 279 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.
As of 24:00 on May 11, the National Health Commission had received reports of 90,799 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 85,861 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 302 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,012,946 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 5,766 were still under medical observation.
On May 11, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 11 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 6 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 4 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 11, 319 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 313 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on May 11, 13,071 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 11,812 in Hong Kong (210 had died and 11,503 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 49 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 1,210 in Taiwan (12 had died and 1,093 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
