Xuzhou Museum is a comprehensive museum responsible for the excavation, protection, exhibition, collection and research of historical heritages in Xuzhou City.
The national 4A-level tourist attraction was established in 1959 on the site of the Xanadu palace that Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) built during his southward journey.
It covers an area of 33,000 square meters, which includes a construction area of 12,000 square meters and an exhibition space of 3,000 square meters.
Xuzhou Museum is rich in cultural relics and has a complete collection system highlighting the unique history and culture of Xuzhou.
It has collected 15,577 items, among them are pottery, porcelain, jade, gold and silver, iron, bronzes, seals, and paintings and calligraphy. The abundant collections spans a long period from the Neolithic Age to modern times.
The museum's rare items include the Jade Burial Suit Sewn with Gold Threads, a jade dragon and earthenware dancing figures and musicians.
The majority of the collections were unearthed from ancient ruins or tombs by scientific excavations, and can be ascribed with clear times and sources.
The museum's exhibitions fall into four parts: the Quarry Sites of the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24), the Family Tombs of the Pengcheng King of the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220) in Tu Shan, the Xanadu palace of the Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty and the main exhibition building displaying jade of the Han Dynasty, pottery figurine, furniture of the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911), and paintings and calligraphy of the Ming and Qing dynasties donated by Deng Yongqing.
