GAC Aion launches Aion Y at Auto Shanghai

Chinese electric carmaker GAC Aion launched its Aion Y SUV at the Shanghai auto show, priced from 104,600 yuan to 148,600 yuan.

Since its presales started in March, the orders for Aion Ys are growing by 400 units per day.

As GAC Group's premium smart EV brand, GAC Aion also showcased its Aion LX SUV and the Aion S sedan at the biennial event that concluded on April 28.

GAC Aion is one of the most competitive Chinese EV makers, with its GEP 2.0 platform dedicated to electric cars.

It has battery technologies that enable cars to run for 1,000 km in one charge, and they will be get 80 percent charged in 8 minutes.

The carmaker said such battery technologies will be available in volume cars.

GAC Aion is also developing its smart connectivity and autonomous driving system.

It has unveiled the Aion LX, which is the world's first Level 3 vehicle, and the world's first 5G model, the Aion V.

The latest generation of the system will be installed in the Aion V later this year.

GAC Aion is upgrading its plant, with an investment of 500 million yuan. After the expansion, its capacity will double to 200,000 units per year.
