China will kick off a nationwide consumption promotion, lasting May 1 to May 30, in a launch ceremony in Shanghai set for April 30, according to an April 13 notification from officials.
The promotion will focus on three areas of consumption - bulk commodities including cars, home appliances and household items; traditional services including catering, entertainment and tourism; as well as emerging consumption including digital culture, healthcare and information.
Moreover, some of the promotional events, in combination with exhibitions such as the China International Consumer Products Expo, will be held to import commodities, agricultural products, popular products from time-honored brands, featured foods, cultural and creative products as well as maternity and baby products.
Aiming to stimulate the market, unleash consumption potential, and accelerate market recovery, the consumption promotion will be organized by the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and State Administration for Market Regulation.
