Smart manufacturing booms in Xiamen

Smart manufacturing has experienced a boom in recent years in the coastal city of Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, according to a report released at a forum held in the city on April 18.

The report - the Xiamen Intelligent Manufacturing Index (2019-2020) - was released after an in-depth survey of 1,280 industrial enterprises in 22 different industries in Xiamen. The city's industrial manufacturing industry index is 1.61, meaning it has strong potential for further development.

The report aims to understand the maturity of intelligent manufacturing among industrial enterprises, provide data references for relevant policies, and find examples of digital transformation and upgrading among enterprises in the city.

The report covered three dimensions, namely enterprise management automation, equipment automation, and factory intelligence. It showed that 66 percent of enterprises are in a critical period of digital transformation, and 79 percent of them plan to pursue intelligent transformation in the next three years.

Enterprises plan to focus on improving cost effectiveness, achieving full quality traceability, and reducing environmental pollution through digitalization and intelligence.

The Intelligent Manufacturing Industry Association invited 17 top companies to share their intelligent manufacturing experiences, including IBM, Huawei, and more.
