Premier visits Sanxingdui Ruins site

Premier Li Keqiang visited the Sanxingdui Ruins site in Guanghan, Southwest China's Sichuan province, on April 19.

According to those in charge, new discoveries have been made at the site.

After hearing from site personnel and inspecting the site, Premier Li said it is not easy to see so many young scholars across disciplines dedicated to the course of archaeology with strong conviction in the current fast-developing era.

He told the archaeologists they are discovering and inheriting the roots of Chinese culture when excavating ancient ruins in the modern society, urging them to carefully compare and study the relations between the Yin Ruins, the Erlitou site and the Sanxingdui Ruins.

Today’s archaeological technology comes from the combination of different disciplines instead of a single field, Premier Li said, adding modern technologies should be applied in excavations to make new discoveries.

The aim of studying cultural roots is to innovate and reform, Premier Li said.

He added Chinese culture has a history of thousands of years, and time-honored, outstanding cultures should be inherited and spread through archaeological excavations.

The Sanxingdui Ruins, a rich historical and cultural heritage area, should be well excavated, protected and studied, he concluded.
