The coastal city of Yantai will focus on green and low-carbon development and improve its environmental quality over the next five years, according to a news conference held by the Yantai municipal government on April 7.
By 2025, the city aims to develop into a livable city with a high-quality environment. By 2035, it aims to achieve the long-term goals of fundamental improvement of the natural environment.
Carbon dioxide emissions reduction plays a key role in protecting the environment, local officials said.
Yantai will further optimize its energy structure, develop clean energy, improve the efficiency of energy utilization, and strive to achieve peak carbon emissions during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).
It will continue to promote green development in the energy, transportation, and agriculture industries and ensure good soil and water quality during this period.
More efforts will also be made to improve air quality and heavy pollution days are expected to be eliminated by 2025. In addition, the city will focus on improving the water environment and increasing the sustainable utilization of water resources. More efforts will be made to improve the marine environment as well.
