Of all China's cultural icons, ceramics has had the most profound and extensive global influence. Jingdezhen, a city in East China's Jiangxi province, is the pride of the Chinese ceramics industry.

The museum was built to showcase this glorious history of Jingdezhen, a city referred to as having a two millennia history of pottery production, a one millennia history as the country’s official kiln, and a six century history serving the imperial families of the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911).

Its 50,000-odd permanent collection covers a long time span and a wide spectrum of ceramic categories, from potteries dating to the Neolithic Age to stoneware and porcelain masterpieces throughout past dynasties, all discovered or made in Jingdezhen. The museum also holds fine pieces of ceramic ware by such contemporary artists as blue-and-white porcelain master Wang Bu (1898-1968) and the acclaimed Eight Friends of Zhushan Mountain (a group of variably eight to 10 ceramic artists active in Jingdezhen between the late 19th to the 20th century with great originality in their works).

The permanent exhibition looks back on the local ceramic history and the ever-thriving industry. The curatorial narrative follows a chronological sequence. By paying a "pilgrimage" to the Jingdezhen China Ceramics Museum you will surely emerge with a deeper understanding of China's ceramics!
