New book published on Three Gorges cultural-relic protection

A new book has been published on cultural-relic protection work associated with the Three Gorges project, a vast multi-functional water-control system on the Yangtze River, China's longest waterway.

The new volume is the largest in a series dealing with the Cultural Relic Protection Project of the Three Gorges Project, which aims to save the most important relics that might otherwise have been damaged by flooding.

This latest book deals specifically with archaeological excavations at the Zhongba site, one of the world's oldest salt-production sites, located within the Three Gorges Reservoir region.

A great number of historical remains and relics have been discovered during the excavation work.

The book combs through and summarizes the research on cultural relics from different historical periods, covering a range of disciplines, including archaeology, history, anthropology and biology.

The archaeology book series, the largest of its kind ever published in China, provides a comprehensive array of records on cultural-relic protection in the Three Gorges project area, serving as an important source of materials on ancient-culture research.
