On April 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 21 new cases of confirmed infections (13 imported cases, 4 in Guangdong province, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Shaanxi province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Hunan province; 8 indigenous cases in Yunnan province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 5 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 466 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 1.

In all, 5,203 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 194 confirmed cases (including 2 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on April 8, the National Health Commission had received reports of 90,386 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 85,471 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 279 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 995,259 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 7,364 were still under medical observation.

As of 24:00 on April 8, 293 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 268 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on April 8, 12,648 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 11,549 in Hong Kong (205 had died and 11,174 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 49 in Macao (48 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 1,050 in Taiwan (10 had died and 1,007 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
