Opened to the public in 1982, the former residence memorial of Zhu De (1886-1976) -- one of China's greatest military leaders -- is located in his home town and was inscribed by the late leader Deng Xiaoping. It covers a construction area of 5,560 square meters after several improvement projects, and is designed as a brick and tile concrete structure that presents a strong style of traditional folk dwellings in northern Sichuan.
The memorial is not the exact abode of Zhu De, but a newly built cultural facility in the county where he lived from 9 to 23. The well preserved former residence is now a national foremost protected heritage site.
The three sections of the memorial are the permanent exhibition of Zhu De’s life, a specialized display themed around his emotional world and an interactive unit. With great employment of sculptures, photos, videos, paintings, poems and relics, the memorial vividly and realistically describes Zhu De’s great achievements, firm revolutionary beliefs, high character and superb political wisdom.
